Trainee Asphalt and Chip Sealing Operators and Labourers

Oamaru, New Zealand

Reference: 6802496

Looking for a job that gets you out in the fresh air, pays you while you learn, and builds skills you can use for life?

Whether you're just starting out, ready for a career change, or simply looking for something more hands-on, this is your chance to join Whitestone Contracting Ltd in Oamaru , an award-winning civil construction company with big growth plans and an even bigger focus on its people.

We're not asking for years of experience. What matters most is attitude. If you're reliable, keen to learn, and want to be part of a team that looks after each other, we want to hear from you.

The role

You'll be joining our Surfacing Team as a Trainee Asphalt & Chip Sealing Operator/Labourer. Day-to-day, that means helping to operate plant and equipment, laying asphalt, sealing roads, and being part of the crew that keeps communities connected. One day you might be working in Oamaru, the next surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Mackenzie or Central Otago.

This is a full-time, permanent role based out of our Oamaru depot, working mostly Monday-Friday with the occasional Saturday.

What you'll bring

  • A positive attitude, good work ethic and a willingness to learn.
  • The ability to work well in a team, put safety first, and take pride in a job well done.
  • Physical fitness (this is hands-on work).
  • A Class 1 driver's licence (essential). Class 2 or 4 would be great, but not required.
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

What we'll provide

  • A competitive hourly rate.
  • All PPE and work gear provided.
  • Ongoing training and development, including the chance to gain formal qualifications.
  • Genuine opportunities to grow your career - if leadership is your thing, we'll support you to get there.

Why join Whitestone?

At Whitestone Contracting, we're more than just roads and infrastructure. We're building pathways, for our communities and for our people. You'll be joining a crew of over 100 across the Lower South Island who work hard, look out for each other, and take pride in the difference we make every day.

So if you're ready to earn while you learn, start building a career with real future, and work in some of New Zealand's most stunning landscapes we'd love to hear from you.

We're considering applications as they arrive, so don't wait, apply today.
