Contracts Manager - Surfacing
Lead from the front. Deliver it right. Build something that lasts.
Oamaru | Whitestone Contracting
At Whitestone, we don't cut corners.
We seal roads that last.
We invest in our people.
And we back our region.
We've been part of the Waitaki landscape for decades. In the last year we've paid over $5 million in wages locally, invested more than $300,000 in staff training, and returned $94,000 to community organisations last year alone from North Otago Rugby to the Oamaru Opera House and the Waitaki Student Support Trust.
We're proud of what we build.
And we're proud of how we build it.
Now we're looking for a Contracts Manager - Surfacing who feels the same.
The Role
You'll lead the planning, management and delivery of chipseal and asphalt surfacing contracts across the region ensuring projects are delivered:
- Safely
- On programme
- Within budget
- To exacting specification
You'll oversee crews, coordinate plant and resources, manage commercial performance, maintain strong client relationships, and make sure every job meets Whitestone's quality standards.
This role is based in Oamaru (Deborah Depot), primarily servicing the Waitaki District, with occasional Otago/South Canterbury travel.
What's Needed to Succeed
- Strong experience in chipseal and asphalt operations
- Understanding of TNZ / Waka Kotahi specifications (P/03, B/02 etc.)
- Proven contract management capability (programmes, forecasting, cost control, variations)
- Confidence leading crews in live, high-pressure environments
- A genuine safety-first mindset
And.....
You understand binder application rates.
You know what good compaction looks like.
You can read a programme and adjust when weather turns.
You manage risk before it becomes a problem.
You don't just supervise you lead.
You communicate clearly with clients, consultants, crews and suppliers. You take ownership. You solve problems. You care about getting it right.
Because we do.
Why Whitestone?
Because this is a business that does things properly. Strong standards. Clear expectations. Solid backing. If you want to lead quality work, not fight internal noise, and be part of a company with long-term direction, Whitestone is the right next move.
Ready To Lead From The Front?
If you're an experienced surfacing professional ready to step into a leadership role with real responsibility and you want to work for a company that values quality, safety and community we'd like to hear from you.
